What's The Call Thursday

Today's scenario: Again, this one happened this year.

No outs and runner on 3rd. The pitcher from the stretch comes set and the runner takes off for home. The pitcher steps off and throws home. The batter did not see the pitcher step off the rubber and proceeds to bunt the throw. He bunts the ball fair.

  1. What is the call?
  2. Is the call any different with 2 outs?

Thanks and if you heard me discuss this Monday please wait to post after a few. Thanks

  1. Good one.
Basicaly this now becomes a put out play at home, Thus giving us batter interference at the plate. Since the ball was batted fair and no out was made it is a delayed dead ball. Time is called at the end of action and R3 is called out on the interferance and the batter returns to the box to bat. With 2 outs the batter is called out. In both cases no runs are allowed. ref 5-1-2a and 7-3-5c
